One Piece: Clockwork Island Adventure Review

Image
Media Name:  One Piece: Clockwork Island Adventure Media Type: Movie Release Year: 2001 Director:  Junji Shimizu Production Compaies:  Toei Animation English Distributor: Manga Entertainment Runtime: 55 minutes Finished Watching: 29th November 2022 My Rating: 7/10 Given that the first One Piece movie was not the best in terms of writing, I lowered my expectations for this one. I'd have to say that I enjoyed this one slightly more than the first movie though. The animation was really good though not as good as the first movie. The new characters were a lot more interesting in this movie. The fight scenes were also really well done.  Quite a few of the jokes also were quite funny. Some of the problems were however that at times it could feel like a generic filler plot. I also didn't really like the ending that much either. Overall, while this was an improvement from the first one, it still was far from a great movie.

One Piece: Jango's Dance Carnival Review

Image
Media Name:  One Piece: Jango's Dance Carnival Media Type: Short Film Release Year: 2001 Director:  Daisuke Nishio Production Companies: Toei Animation English Distributor: N/A Runtime: 6 minutes Finished Watching: 29th November 2022 My Rating: 7.5/10 Given that this was a theatrical short film that played before the second movie, I didn't know what to expect. I really enjoyed it though. I though it to be really funny. The animation was great and I really liked the music. Overall, while this was just a short film, I still found it to be really entertaining.

Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros 3 Review

Image
Media Name: Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros 3 Media Type: Video Game Release Years: 2003 (GameBoy Advance), 2015 (Wii U Virtual Console) Game Director:  Hiroyuki Kimura Developer:  Nintendo EAD Publisher: Nintendo Played on: Wii U Virtual Console Completion Status: 100% (Main Game) Finished Playing: 29th November 2022 My Rating: 8/10 While I already have a GameBoy Advance copy of this game, and could also play the All-Stars and NES versions if I wanted to, I chose to buy this game again on the Wii U Virtual Console so that I could play the E-Reader card levels. This review is only focused on the main game however. I really enjoyed this one and I would have to say that it is my favourite of the NES Mario games. I really liked the controls for the most part and found them to be very responsive. The game has some great level design which was actually quite challenging to get through at times. The graphics, sound design and music of this version were also really nice. Bas...

One Piece: Adventure in the Ocean's Navel Review

Image
Media Name:  One Piece: Adventure in the Ocean's Navel Media Type: TV Special Series: One Piece Release Year: 2000 Special Director:  Yukio Kaizawa Production Company:  Toei Animation English Network:  N/A Runtime: 49 Minutes Finished Watching: 28th November 2022 My Rating: 4/10 Given that this was the first TV special from One Piece , I was looking forward to it to see what Toei could do with an extended episode. I would have to say that I was disappointed. The plot was really not interesting with it feeling quite generic, same with the new characters who feel exactly like some of the other new characters from filler episodes. The ending was also quit underwhelming as well. The animation was nowhere near as good as in the show and could feel at times like a PowerPoint presentation. I did find some of the jokes to be funny though along with the character writing for the Straw Hats. Overall, I didn't like this special and I found it to be quite disappointing.

Ms. Marvel (TV Show) Review

Image
Media Name: Ms. Marvel Media Type: TV Series Season: 1 Episode Count 6 Release Year: 2022 Creators:  Bisha K. Ali Production Company: Marvel Studios Original Network: Disney+ Finished Watching: 27th November 2022 My Rating: 5/10 Going into this, I didn't really know what to expect since I've never seen Ms. Marvel in any other piece of media and I've never read her comics. I'd have to say that this show was mediocre. The pacing was way too slow which made the show drag. It felt like they forgot at times that they were making a superhero show because there was so little action occurring. It also felt like they set up too many villains to the point of where it got confusing as to who was meant to be the main villain. The final episode was really messy as well though I'd have to say that I enjoyed it more. There were some funny jokes however sprinkled throughout. Overall, while I wouldn't say this series was terrible, I also wouldn't say it was great either.

The Guardians of the Galaxy: Holiday Special Review

Image
Media Name:  The Guardians of the Galaxy: Holiday Special Media Type: TV Special Series: MCU Release Year: 2022 Special Director:  James Gunn Production Company:  Marvel Studios English Network:  Disney+ Runtime: 42 Minutes Finished Watching: 25th November 2022 My Rating: 8/10 Given how much I like the Guardians of the Galaxy movies, I was really excited for this special. I'd have to say that it delivered. I found it to be really funny with the plot of Drax and Mantis kidnapping Kevin Bacon especially being amusing. The acting was really great as well. The CGI was surprisingly great given how CGI in other phase 3 MCU content has looked. The writing was also really good and the special was sometimes emotional. The only bad thing was the rotoscoped 2D animation for the beginning and ending which should have just been live-action in my opinion. Overall, this was a great TV special and gives the MCU a sign of hope.

Good Burger (Movie) Review

Image
Media Name: Good Burger Media Type: Movie Release Year: 1997 Director:  Brian Robbins Production Companies:  Nickelodeon Movies,  Tollin/Robbins Productions Distributor:  Paramount Pictures Runtime: 1 hour 35 minutes Finished Watching: 25th November 2022 My Rating: 8.5/10 Good Burger is one of those movies that I kept planning to watch but kept forgetting to but I finally watched the movie with my friends on a Discord call. I would have to say that I really enjoyed this one. The characters were great and well-written (especially Ed). I also found it to be extremely funny and I couldn't stop laughing throughout most of it. The ending song is also surprisingly really good. One of my few problems with it was that the dialogue could sometimes be robotic. Other than that I would have to say that this is one of the funniest movies I've ever seen and I will certainly watch it again along with the sequel.

One Piece: The Movie Review

Image
Media Name: One Piece: The Movie Media Type: Movie Release Year: 2000 Director:  Junji Shimizu Production Compaies:  Toei Animation,  Fuji Television,  Shueisha,  Toei Company English Distributor: Manga Entertainment Runtime: 51 minutes Finished Watching: 24th November 2022 My Rating: 6.5/10 This was the first of the One Piece movies which I had to watch so I was looking forward to seeing what Toei could do with a movie based on the series. I'd have to say that this was good but not really the best. I was surprised by how short this movie was given that it is actually less than an hour long. I really liked the animation in this and found it to be really entertaining to watch. The characters were also as well-written as in the main show itself. The action was really good though. I'd have to say that the short runtime really held it back especially since it took around 20 minutes for the plot to progress. The main villain felt like an average villain and actuall...

Super Mario Bros. (1993 Movie) Review [Rewatch]

Image
Media Name: Super Mario Bros. Media Type: Movie Release Year: 1993 Directors:  Rocky Morton,  Annabel Jankel Production Companies:  Hollywood Pictures,  Lightmotive,  Allied Filmmakers,  Cinergi Pictures Distributor: Buena Vista Pictures Distribution Runtime: 1 hour 44 minutes Finished Watching: 22nd November 2022 My Rating: 6/10 Whenever I hear anyone talk about the live-action Mario movie, people usually talk about how bad it was or that it's one of the worst films of all time. I'd have to say that people are overexaggerating. Is this a good adaptation? Absolutely not, there is barely anything accurate to the games. It this a good movie? eh, it's decent. I'd have to say that I enjoyed it. The acting was really good with Bob Hoskins doing an especially good job. Some of the writing was decent and I found some of the jokes to be funny. Some of the flaws, other than the obvious lack of accuracy, were that the CGI has aged quite poorly. Some of the character...

One Piece: Defeat Him! The Great Pirate Ganzack! Review

Image
Media Name:  One Piece: Defeat Him! The Great Pirate Ganzack! Media Type: OVA Release Year: 1998 Director:  Gorō Taniguchi Production Companies: Production I.G. English Distributor: N/A Runtime: 30 minutes Finished Watching: 22nd November 2022 My Rating: 7.5/10 Well, I finally started One Piece and along with the main show itself, I decided to watch all of the movies, TV specials and OVAs, including this one. To say that this was the first anime adaptation of One Piece and it wasn't even done by Toei Animation who made the main show, this was really good. The animation was really great and the cel animation looked good. The music was also nice to listen to. I liked the action. The characters were also really well-written. That being said, it wasn't perfect as I didn't find either the storyline or the villain to be that interesting. Other than those flaws, this was a fun OVA to watch and for a first adaptation, this was really good and goes to show how Production I.G . wou...

Food Wars!: Shokugeki no Soma The Fifth Plate Review

Image
Media Name: Food Wars!: Shokugeki no Soma The Fifth Plate Media Type: TV Series Season: 5 Episode Count 13 Release Year: 2020 Series Director:  Yoshitomo Yonetani Production Company: J.C. Staff English Network: Crunchyroll Finished Watching: 20th November 2022 My Rating: 6/10 So this was the final season of Food Wars and given my thoughts on the previous season , I was expecting to hate this one. I'd have to say that this one was a step-up but not as good as the first few seasons. While it introduced more slice-of-life stuff that was missing from season 4 and I found BLUE to be quite fun to watch, it was still quite flawed. The new villain of the series felt shoe-horned in and could be really annoying half of the time. The first two episodes also sucked with the second episode being my least favourite in the entire series. The ending also kinda blew with it not really wrapping up stuff as good as it could have done. The new villain group also felt like a pointless addition. Overal...

Drag Me To Hell (2009 Movie) Review

Image
Media Name: Drag Me To Hell Media Type: Movie Release Year: 2009 Director:  Sam Raimi Production Companies:  Ghost House Pictures Distributor:  Universal Pictures Runtime: 1 hour 39 minutes Finished Watching: 18th November 2022 My Rating: 6.5/10 Since I got into horror movies, I wanted to give The Evil Dead series a try but my parents suggested this movie saying that I'd like it more. It was okay. I think that Raimi's directing was really great and you could tell that he made it. I think that the horror was done quite well. I found some of the goofier scenes to be quite entertaining. The acting was good and I think that it worked well along with the practical effects which I wasn't expecting to see that much of given this movie's release year. I thought that the digital effects however, were absolutely terrible. There were also quite a lot of gross-out scenes which I didn't really like either. Overall, I enjoyed this movie but it's far from perfect.

Food Wars!: Shokugeki no Soma The Fourth Plate Review

Image
Media Name: Food Wars!: Shokugeki no Soma The Fourth Plate Media Type: TV Series Season: 4 Episode Count 12 Release Year: 2019 Series Director:  Yoshitomo Yonetani Production Company: J.C. Staff English Networks: Crunchyroll, Toonami Finished Watching: 18th November 2022 My Rating: 4/10 Given the fact that I have given the rest of the show  positive reviews, I expected to also give this one a positive review. Unfortunately, I didn't like this season. This season felt overstuffed with Shokugeki's leaving very little room for slice of life character development. And obviously, more Shokugekis means more of the worst part of the show, the fanservice.. It may seem dumb to complain about fanservice in an ecchi show but there was way too much during this season. Sometimes it felt like Souma's friends were flanderized as well since they felt less like characters and more like just his supporters. I'd have to say though that despite this being a bad season, the last 3 episodes ...

Half-Life: Blue Shift Review

Image
Media Name: Half-Life: Blue Shift Media Type: Video Game Release Year: 2001 Developer: Gearbox Software Publisher:  Sierra Studios, Valve Played on: PC Completion Status: Any% Finished Playing: 15th November 2022 My Rating: 6/10 This was the second Half-Life spin-off game that I played and since I enjoyed Opposing Force , I expected this one to also be really fun. It was just ok. Since it had the same engine as the previous two games, I encountered a lot of the same issues. I also found this one to be way too easy. It was also way too short as it took me just over 2 hours to complete. The world design was confusing sometimes as well as there were times where I got lost since I didn't know where to go. Other than that though, I did like the story and sometimes it was fun. Overall, while far from bad, this is definitely the weakest of the Half-Life Goldsource era games. At least the next one is Half-Life 2.

Food Wars!: Shokugeki no Soma The Third Plate Review

Image
Media Name: Food Wars!: Shokugeki no Soma The Third Plate Media Type: TV Series Season: 3 Episode Count 24 + 1 OVA Release Year: 2017-2018 Series Director:  Yoshitomo Yonetani Production Company: J.C. Staff English Networks: Crunchyroll, Toonami Finished Watching: 14th November 2022 My Rating: 8/10 The start of this season made me kind of worry that the show was getting repetitive but thankfully the introduction of Central proved me wrong as they brought new opposition to the table that kept it fresh and interesting. I also felt that the Train arc adding in the adults opposing the main characters was fun to watch as well. Azami is also a great villain and helped to increase the cast. I also really liked the OPs. Other than those points, it was partially more of the same from seasons 1 and 2 . My only problems were that Momo's inclusion felt uncomfortable at times and it felt unnatural to end it right in the middle of a new tournament. Overall I really enjoyed this season and I wou...
