Cheesy Reviews

Media Name: Food Wars!: Shokugeki no Soma The Fifth Plate Media Type: TV Series Season: 5 Episode Count 13 Release Year: 2020 Series Director:  Yoshitomo Yonetani Production Company: J.C. Staff English Network: Crunchyroll Finished Watching: 20th November 2022 My Rating: 6/10 So this was the final season of Food Wars and given my thoughts on the previous season , I was expecting to hate this one. I'd have to say that this one was a step-up but not as good as the first few seasons. While it introduced more slice-of-life stuff that was missing from season 4 and I found BLUE to be quite fun to watch, it was still quite flawed. The new villain of the series felt shoe-horned in and could be really annoying half of the time. The first two episodes also sucked with the second episode being my least favourite in the entire series. The ending also kinda blew with it not really wrapping up stuff as good as it could have done. The new villain group also felt like a pointless addition. Overal...

Media Name: Food Wars!: Shokugeki no Soma The Fourth Plate Media Type: TV Series Season: 4 Episode Count 12 Release Year: 2019 Series Director:  Yoshitomo Yonetani Production Company: J.C. Staff English Networks: Crunchyroll, Toonami Finished Watching: 18th November 2022 My Rating: 4/10 Given the fact that I have given the rest of the show  positive reviews, I expected to also give this one a positive review. Unfortunately, I didn't like this season. This season felt overstuffed with Shokugeki's leaving very little room for slice of life character development. And obviously, more Shokugekis means more of the worst part of the show, the fanservice.. It may seem dumb to complain about fanservice in an ecchi show but there was way too much during this season. Sometimes it felt like Souma's friends were flanderized as well since they felt less like characters and more like just his supporters. I'd have to say though that despite this being a bad season, the last 3 episodes ...

Media Name: Food Wars!: Shokugeki no Soma The Third Plate Media Type: TV Series Season: 3 Episode Count 24 + 1 OVA Release Year: 2017-2018 Series Director:  Yoshitomo Yonetani Production Company: J.C. Staff English Networks: Crunchyroll, Toonami Finished Watching: 14th November 2022 My Rating: 8/10 The start of this season made me kind of worry that the show was getting repetitive but thankfully the introduction of Central proved me wrong as they brought new opposition to the table that kept it fresh and interesting. I also felt that the Train arc adding in the adults opposing the main characters was fun to watch as well. Azami is also a great villain and helped to increase the cast. I also really liked the OPs. Other than those points, it was partially more of the same from seasons 1 and 2 . My only problems were that Momo's inclusion felt uncomfortable at times and it felt unnatural to end it right in the middle of a new tournament. Overall I really enjoyed this season and I wou...

Media Name: Food Wars!: Shokugeki no Soma The Second Plate Media Type: TV Series Season: 2 Episode Count 13 + 2 OVAs Release Year: 2016 Series Director:  Yoshitomo Yonetani Production Company: J.C. Staff English Networks: Hi-Dive, Toonami Finished Watching: 30th October 2022 My Rating: 8/10 This season contained both more of what I enjoyed and some of what I didn't like from  the first season . The animation, characters and writing were still really good. Not only that but it also featured a new tournament setting which I found to be really fun and added to the season. The new OP and ED were also both great and I enjoyed listening to them. It was also nice to see characters like Alice Nakiri and Akira Hayama get more screen time after only being introduced in the first season. There was also way less ecchi content in this season which I was glad about. Overall, this was a great season and continued to build upon what the first season started.

Media Name: Food Wars!: Shokugeki no Soma The First Plate Media Type: TV Series Season: 1 Episode Count 24 + 2 OVAs Release Year: 2015 Series Director:  Yoshitomo Yonetani Production Company: J.C. Staff English Networks: Hi-Dive, Toonami Finished Watching: 17th October 2022 My Rating: 8/10 I originally decided not to watch this anime since it's ecchi and I don't like ecchi anime. That was until one of my friends told me it wasn't that bad in terms of content and he was right. I ended up really enjoying it. I really liked each of the characters and felt they were well-written. The music was really good with both OPs and EDs being really catchy. I felt that a lot of the jokes landed and I found them to be really funny. The animation looked great especially when they were cooking with the food looking on-par with Studio Ghibli food (unironically not as in the "How does Studio Ghibli always make food look delicious" meme). I also found myself to be really addicted to ...

Media Name: The Devil is a Part-Timer!! Media Type: TV Series Season: 2 Episode Count 12 Release Year: 2022 Series Director:  Daisuke Tsukushi Production Company: 3Hz English Network: Crunchyroll Finished Watching: 2nd October 2022 My Rating: 3/10 I originally watched the first season in 2021 and really enjoyed it but since at the time it had been 8 years without a second season, I didn't expect one to happen but to my surprise it did. When I watched it, I was extremely disappointed. this season was made by a different studio so the animation was nowhere near as good. I felt like there were too many generic slice of life plotlines that were extremely boring. They literally just felt like filler that added nothing to the story. I really didn't get why they got rid of MgRonald's in this season when it's basically the whole point of the show. The first season didn't focus entirely on MgRonald's but what they did with it was more interesting than the beach bar and f...

Media Name: Bee and PuppyCat: Lazy In Space Media Type: TV Series Season: 2 Episode Count 16 (3 Remake, 13 New) Release Year: 2022 Creator: Natasha Allegri Production Companies: Frederator Studios, OLM Inc Original Network: Netflix Finished Watching: 24th September 2022 My Rating: 9.5/10 (New Episodes) 8/10 (Remake Episodes) This show was what made me watch the original series which if you've seen my review of season 1, you would know that I loved. This season was also amazing. Technically speaking this season is an anime since it was co-produced by OLM Inc who also made the anime adaptations of Komi Can't Communicate, Pokémon and ODDTAXI. I would have to say that the new artstyle is great and works really well for the series. I actually don't have a preference between this season's artstyle and season one's artstyle since they're both great and look really nice. Since season 1 was on YouTube and this season was on Netflix, there were 3 episodes made as remake...

Media Name: Kiki's Delivery Service Media Type: Movie Release Year: 1989 Director: Hayao Miyazaki Production Company: Studio Ghibli English Distributors: Disney, Gkids Runtime: 1 hour 43 minutes Finished Watching: 21st September 2022 My Rating: 9.5/10 I've been a huge fan of Studio Ghibli and especially Hayao Miyazaki since I first watched their films in early 2020 and have been waiting to get each of them on Blu-Ray in order to re-watch them. This was one of the movies that I was the most looking forward to watching and I would have to say that it did not disappoint. The animation was fantastic as to be expected from Ghibli and the backgrounds were also beautiful. I really liked the nice slice of life tone of the movie as well. I loved each of the characters and felt they were really well-written. The music is absolutely fantastic and the main theme of the movie (A Town With An Ocean View) is one of my favourite songs from any Ghibli movie. The movie was also extremely fun to ...

Media Name: Bee and PuppyCat Media Type: TV Series Season: 1 Episode Count 13 Release Year: 2013-2016 Creator: Natasha Allegri Production Company: N/A (Pilot), Frederator Studios (Series),  Original Networks: Nintendo Video (Pilot), YouTube (series) Finished Watching: 11th September 2022 My Rating: 10/10 I originally found out about this series years ago while browsing one of the Frederator YouTube channels however I didn't watch it for some reason. I only ended up watching it when the second season (Lazy In Space) released on Netflix this year and I absolutely loved it. The characters were great and entertaining, the animation was also great and looked especially good in the fight scenes. I really enjoyed the nice and relaxed slice of life tone that the series contains most of the time. I also thought the voice acting and the music were both really good as well. I would definitely consider re-watching this series at some point in time.
