Food Wars!: Shokugeki no Soma The Second Plate Review

Image
Media Name: Food Wars!: Shokugeki no Soma The Second Plate Media Type: TV Series Season: 2 Episode Count 13 + 2 OVAs Release Year: 2016 Series Director:  Yoshitomo Yonetani Production Company: J.C. Staff English Networks: Hi-Dive, Toonami Finished Watching: 30th October 2022 My Rating: 8/10 This season contained both more of what I enjoyed and some of what I didn't like from  the first season . The animation, characters and writing were still really good. Not only that but it also featured a new tournament setting which I found to be really fun and added to the season. The new OP and ED were also both great and I enjoyed listening to them. It was also nice to see characters like Alice Nakiri and Akira Hayama get more screen time after only being introduced in the first season. There was also way less ecchi content in this season which I was glad about. Overall, this was a great season and continued to build upon what the first season started.

Wonder Egg Priority Review

Image
Media Name: Wonder Egg Priority Media Type: TV Series Season: 1 Episode Count 12 + Special Release Year: 2021 Series Director:  Shin Wakabayashi Production Company:  CloverWorks English Networks:  Crunchyroll Finished Watching: 30th October 2022 My Rating: 8/10 I've heard a lot of mixed things about Wonder Egg Priority so going into it I was unsure as to whether I'd like it or not but I really enjoyed it. I thought the characters were all great and worked well with each other. Some of the darker themes of the show were touched upon really well. The animation was also really good and reminded me of Studio Trigger at times. I also really liked the music, especially the OP. The Trans representation was also really well done. It sucked that the show had two recaps (both of which I skipped). I also felt that the finale special was terrible at wrapping everything up. If it was a cliff-hanger leading into a second season, I would consider it to be a decent episode but it does no...

Perfect Blue Review

Image
Media Name: Perfect Blue Media Type: Movie Release Year: 1997 Director:  Satoshi Kon Production Company: Madhouse English Distributor: GKIDS Runtime: 1 hour 21 minutes Finished Watching: 28th October 2022 My Rating: 9/10 Before watching this movie, I had only seen one other movie by Satoshi Kon and that was Tokyo Godfathers which I thought was decent but not the best. So I was unsure as to how much I would have liked this film but I thought that it was great. This is one of the few horror movies that I found to be actually terrifying with the psychological aspect lending itself to it well. The animation looked great most of the time however there were some scenes where the characters looked goofy. The mystery element also helped to keep me engaged in the movie. Basically the only problems were that some of the scenes were quite gross and made me want to throw up. It could also get slightly confusing at times but not that much. Other than those problems, I'd have to say that I ...

Werewolf By Night (TV Special) Review

Image
Media Name: Werewolf By Night Media Type: TV Special Series: MCU Release Year: 2022 Special Director:  Michael Giacchino Production Company:  Marvel Studios English Network:  Disney+ Runtime: 53 Minutes Finished Watching: 26th October 2022 My Rating: 5/10 I'll be honest and say that this year in terms of the MCU has been disappointing to me but I was looking forward to this one. When I watched it, it was just ok. Maybe it's because I haven't seen any old monster movies that inspired it but I thought it was boring most of the time and not really that scary at all. Some of the scenes in the movie also reminded me a bit of Morbius (which I'd say is the second worst movie of this year). I thought that the fight scenes were good though and the CGI was better than most of the other things from the MCU that released this year. The black and white filter also added to the movie in my opinion. Overall, I was disappointed by this though I wouldn't say its one of the worst thi...

Serial Experiments Lain Review

Image
Media Name: Serial Experiments Lain Media Type: TV Series Season: 1 Episode Count 13 Release Year: 1998 Series Director:  Ryūtarō Nakamura Production Company:  Triangle Staff English Networks:  KTEH, TechTV, Funimation Channel Finished Watching: 24th October 2022 My Rating: 9.5/10 I first found out about this anime through its soundtrack and later on, I first found the OP from a VHS rip of KTEH's broadcast of the show that aired around 9/11 and loved it. So I decided to watch the whole show. Goddamn was it amazing. I really enjoyed the psychological aspect of the show which reminded me a bit of Evangelion. The animation looked great most of the time. The writing  and characters were also really good. I loved the music, especially the OP. The show also did a great job of building up tension. Basically the only problem I had with it was that it could sometimes be a bit confusing however most of the time it wasn't. Overall, I'd have to say that this is one of the best a...

Final Destination Review

Image
Media Name: Final Destination Media Type: Movie Release Year: 2000 Director:  James Wong Production Companies:  Zide/Perry Productions,  Hard Eight Pictures Distributor:  New Line Cinema Runtime: 1 hour 38 minutes Finished Watching: 22nd October 2022 My Rating: 7/10 This was the first horror movie that I watched to celebrate Halloween and I'd have to say that I enjoyed it. The acting was great. I really liked the idea of the premise of not being able to escape death. The writing was also quite good most of the time. The scene where the bus is in the window looked really cool. Some of the problems were that it didn't age perfectly as some of the deaths were extremely goofy. The toilet water returning to the toilet also looked really dumb. I ended up finding the movie to be way funnier than I probably should have. Overall, while I thought it was a good movie, it aged too poorly for me to be able to take it seriously.

To Your Eternity Season 1 Review [Rewatch]

Image
Media Name: To Your Eternity Media Type: TV Series Season: 1 Episode Count 20 Release Year: 2021 Series Director:  Masahiko Murata Production Company: Brain's Base English Networks: Crunchyroll Finished Watching: 19th October 2022 My Rating: 8.5/10 I watched the first season of To Your Eternity when it was first airing in spring and summer of 2021 and I'd have to say that I found it to be really enjoyable so when it got close to the start of the second season, I decided to rewatch the first in preparation. I really enjoyed it though not as much as on my first viewing. The best part of this show was the emotional aspect with the deaths of each character being really heart-breaking. The show had some great action scenes paired with really good animation. The characters were all well-written which made any death scenes more impactful. The music was really good with Pink Blood being an especially good song. Some of the problems with the show was that at times it could be quite slo...

Food Wars!: Shokugeki no Soma The First Plate Review

Image
Media Name: Food Wars!: Shokugeki no Soma The First Plate Media Type: TV Series Season: 1 Episode Count 24 + 2 OVAs Release Year: 2015 Series Director:  Yoshitomo Yonetani Production Company: J.C. Staff English Networks: Hi-Dive, Toonami Finished Watching: 17th October 2022 My Rating: 8/10 I originally decided not to watch this anime since it's ecchi and I don't like ecchi anime. That was until one of my friends told me it wasn't that bad in terms of content and he was right. I ended up really enjoying it. I really liked each of the characters and felt they were well-written. The music was really good with both OPs and EDs being really catchy. I felt that a lot of the jokes landed and I found them to be really funny. The animation looked great especially when they were cooking with the food looking on-par with Studio Ghibli food (unironically not as in the "How does Studio Ghibli always make food look delicious" meme). I also found myself to be really addicted to ...

Countdown: The Game Review

Image
Media Name: Countdown: The Game Media Type: Video Game Release Year: 2009 Developers: Sanuk Games, RingZero Game Studio Publisher: Mindscape Played on: Wii Completion Status: Any% Finished Playing: 14th October 2022 My Rating: 7.5/10 I used to be obsessed with Countdown so this was the game show game that I was looking forward to playing the most. I enjoyed it, it as it was intended. The gameplay was quite fun and same as the game show. It has a really good range of difficulty options to choose from. The UI looked nice and was pleasing to the eye. Also the classic Countdown theme song was present which is one of the best parts of the show. Basically the only problem was that the AI was kinda really easy even on medium mode. There were also a lot of rounds and it was unclear as to how many there were. Overall, this was a really good game based on a game show and .

Deal or No Deal: The Banker is Back! Review

Image
Media Name: Deal or No Deal: The Banker is Back! Media Type: Video Game Release Year: 2008 Developers: Endemol Publisher: Mindscape Played on: Wii Completion Status: Any% Finished Playing: 14th October 2022 My Rating: 6/10 I used to watch Deal or No Deal quite a lot years ago so this was one of the game show games that I was most looking forward to playing. I enjoyed it, despite the RNG reliance, it was actually quite fun. The graphics were quite decent with Noel Edmonds' model actually looking decent (though some of the rest looked laughably bad). There were some times where it would be funny with the characters dancing. One of the problems though were that while the game had other modes besides regular Deal or No Deal, they weren't very good with Break the Bankers Code basically being a crappy number version of Wordle and Banker's game just being to watch AI play the game until you offer money as the Banker. The naming keyboard was also probably the worst one I've eve...

Family Fortunes (Wii Game) Review

Image
Media Name: Family Fortunes Media Type: Video Game Release Year: 2009 Developers: Talkback Thames, Slam!, Freemantle Media Publisher: Mindscape Played on: Wii Completion Status: Any% Finished Playing: 14th October 2022 My Rating: 5.5/10 I kinda ended up deciding that I wanted to collect every single game based on a game show that released on the Wii in PAL regions. I'll only review the ones that I was actually able to finish at least a round of. This one I wouldn't say is based on a gameshow that I loved but I did watch it a bit years ago. Basically it's just the British version of Family Feud. The game was ok, the gameplay was average as unlike most Family Feud games where you enter your answer, this one you have a list of answers. I'd say that I would've rather entered the answers but this works too. The character models were all extremely ugly though that made them really funny to look and laugh at. You have the alternative of using Miis but I think it's funn...

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Review

Image
Media Name: Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Media Type: TV Series Season: 1 Episode Count 10 Release Year: 2022 Series Director:  Hiroyuki Imaishi Production Companies: Studio Trigger, CD Projekt English Network: Netflix Finished Watching: 12th October 2022 My Rating: 8.5/10 I've never actually played Cyberpunk 2077 nor have I played any of the tabletop games but I decided to watch this anime anyway because I love Studio Trigger's anime and the show also looked great. I'd have to say that I really enjoyed it. The animation was really good as per usual Trigger standards. I really liked the music with both the OP and ED being really nice songs. The action was really good along with the writing. The characters were all unique and really well-written as well. One of the bad things is that the ending felt really rushed to me. Some of the major characters died with nobody seeming to care that much and were really brushed over and quite insulting. I also know that this is how it was in the...

Fruits Basket -prelude- Review

Image
Media Name: Fruits Basket -prelude- Media Type: Movie Release Year: 2022 Director:  Yoshihide Ibata Production Company: TMS Entertainment English Distributor: Crunchyroll Runtime: 1 hour 28 minutes Finished Watching: 9th October 2022 My Rating: 9/10 I first watched both adaptations of Fruits Basket last year and I would have to say that the 2019 adaptation is one of my favourite anime of all time. When I heard that they were making a prequel focused on Tohru's parents, I was really excited for it. I finally got around to watching it when it got put on Crunchyroll. I was a bit disappointed that part of it was a recap though I'm glad that the recap only lasted 30 minutes. The recap did feel largely like it was only there to fill time though. In terms of the actual movie itself, I loved it. I really enjoyed the storyline. Just like the series, the animation was fantastic. It was also really nice to see the past of Kyoko who we've only seen snippets of in flashbacks. It could a...

Uncharted (Movie) Review

Image
Media Name: Uncharted Media Type: Movie Release Year: 2022 Director:  Ruben Fleischer Production Companies: Columbia Pictures, Playstation Productions, Atlas Entertainment, A2 Productions Distributor: Sony Pictures Releasing Runtime: 1 hour 56 minutes Finished Watching: 8th October 2022 My Rating: 7/10 I've only played a tiny bit of the first game but despite that the Uncharted movie peaked my interest. I'd have to say, I enjoyed it. The acting in the movie was good. I found some of the jokes to be quite funny. The action was well-done and entertaining to watch. The VFX were also really good. Some of the problems were that the green screen wasn't very well done and was quite oftenly noticeable. Another issue was that there were some times at which it was quite confusing as to what was happening. I also felt that, while I think that he is a really good actor, Tom Holland was not a very good fit for the role of Nathan Drake and Mark Wahlberg would have actually been a better ...

The Devil is a Part-Timer!! Season 2 Review

Image
Media Name: The Devil is a Part-Timer!! Media Type: TV Series Season: 2 Episode Count 12 Release Year: 2022 Series Director:  Daisuke Tsukushi Production Company: 3Hz English Network: Crunchyroll Finished Watching: 2nd October 2022 My Rating: 3/10 I originally watched the first season in 2021 and really enjoyed it but since at the time it had been 8 years without a second season, I didn't expect one to happen but to my surprise it did. When I watched it, I was extremely disappointed. this season was made by a different studio so the animation was nowhere near as good. I felt like there were too many generic slice of life plotlines that were extremely boring. They literally just felt like filler that added nothing to the story. I really didn't get why they got rid of MgRonald's in this season when it's basically the whole point of the show. The first season didn't focus entirely on MgRonald's but what they did with it was more interesting than the beach bar and f...
