I originally decided not to watch this anime since it's ecchi and I don't like ecchi anime. That was until one of my friends told me it wasn't that bad in terms of content and he was right. I ended up really enjoying it. I really liked each of the characters and felt they were well-written. The music was really good with both OPs and EDs being really catchy. I felt that a lot of the jokes landed and I found them to be really funny. The animation looked great especially when they were cooking with the food looking on-par with Studio Ghibli food (unironically not as in the "How does Studio Ghibli always make food look delicious" meme). I also found myself to be really addicted to this show and wanted to do nothing but watch it. It wasn't a perfect show though. Some of the fanservice was a bit annoying though mostly in the first and last few episodes of the season. When it got to the last two episodes, it kinda got repetitive since the judges had the same reactions to every meal which was served. In terms of the OVAs, the first one was really good and I think that the Aldini brothers worked really well as protagonists. It was also nice to see someone other than Soma get the spotlight for once. The second OVA wasn't as good and mostly felt like a nice slice of life story though it was still enjoyable. I was a bit concerned when Erina and Alice went to the pool that it would just be ecchi but I was gladly surprised that it was only a small amount of the episode. Overall, I enjoyed season 1 of Food Wars way more than I expected and I will certainly watch it again at some point.
